• We have a highly specialised and nationally recognised Contentious Private Client Team.
• The team is now one of the largest in the North with five lawyers specialising solely in this area.
• Our team is ranked in the top tier of Chambers and Legal 500. Lynsey Harrison who heads the team has a national reputation and is ranked as a Leading Individual in this area of law in both Chambers and Legal 500. Louise Dodds and Liam Brooke are also named in the guides.
• As Members of The Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS), we always follow the ACTAPS code of conduct, which is designed to encourage the swift and cost-effective resolution of disputes.
• Lynsey Harrison is one of a handful of lawyers nationally to have been awarded the ACTAPS Contentious Solicitor of the Year award, recognising her skill and expertise in this area.
• We deal with complex disputes involving Trusts, Inheritance Act claims, Mutual Wills and Disappointed Beneficiary Claims along with disputes relating to the validity of Wills.
• We act on behalf of Executors, Trustees and Beneficiaries in dealing with a variety of disputes surrounding the Administration of Estates.
• We also regularly deal with Contentious Court of Protections matters for example objections to Deputyship applications, Statutory Will applications and financial abuse of the elderly
• The skills required are completely different from those of a commercial litigation lawyer. Our team are comfortable dealing with incredibly complex and contentious disputes whilst using their emotional intelligence to support clients in a sensible and thoughtful manner. We are happy to be forceful and tactical as litigators where needs be but also always consider the need to resolve matters swiftly and by way of mediation if possible.
• The team recognise that funding can be an obstacle for some individual clients. We therefore offer many alternative forms of litigation funding in addition to the traditional hourly rate basis of charging in order to meet the rising demand from clients for more transparent forms of litigation funding. Alternative litigation funding packages include conditional fee agreements and contingency fee agreements.
• Third party funding arrangements are also available and we have links with various professionals which can offer litigation loans. As part of this initiative we also offer clients fixed fees
