I started my career working as a Paralegal in the Court of Protection team, I worked as part of the team for nearly 4 years, before going off and completing my training contract. During my initial time in the team, I worked for more senior fee earners assisting them with their cases and day to day management as a grade D fee earner, I completed the banking for the clients and reconciled accounts. During my time, I progressed to a case handler, where I was responsible for managing cases independently, and delegating up to the deputy when bigger decisions were required. I worked mostly on simple, non complex cases but had some experiences in larger cases where I had built up a good relationship with the client or their family as part of my previous role. I also, began training and advising on care fee matters to individuals or lay attorneys/deputies. I completed seats in both Commercial Litigation and Private Client before returning to the Court of Protection team as a qualified solicitor in May 2024. I now manage a busy and varied case load alongside a Paralegal and Legal and Finance assistance. I manage statutory will applications, trustee applications, applications for authority to sell/purchase properties and to call in the bond. I also investigate when there is suspicion of financial abuse and explore the options to recover funds for individual that has been effected. I have continued to grow my care funding knowledge, I continue to advise lay attorneys/deputies on all aspects of care funding arrangements and deprivation of assets, even representing people in appealing decisions made by the Local Authority if appropriate.
